 1. History

Kenjyutsu is a swordmanship.
Oishi Shinkage-ryu(大石神影流) was founded by Oishi Susumu Tanetugu in the early 1800s. He was taught Aisu kage-ryu kenjutu and Oshima-ryu Soujutsu (sparmanship) by his grandfather and his father. They are instructors of Yanagawa domain.
Oishi Susumu Tanetugu changed the method of the lesson, and founded Oishsi Shinkage-ryu.
He improved a protective gear and it became popular protective gear in Japan. In addition, he improved fukuro shinai (bamboo sword covered with a bag) to a used bamboo sword now. He devised stab technique, and a  technique, of striking one's opponent's breastplate . He thought that everyone can use a longer sword that has the length between the ground and each bust It was longer than a bamboo sword used in other schools. Because the height of Susumu Oishi was 210cm, he used bamboo sword that length is about 160cm.
In 1832, by the order of his feudal lord , he went to the capital city, Edo . Over the next year, he did kenjyutu matches with many famous instructors in Edo. But no one could beat him, and he became very famous all over Japan. Thereafter many samurais from all over Japan came to him to be his pupils.
His son inherited his school. And he also went to Edo by the order of his feudal lord to do kenjyutu matches ilike his father. He had also excellent techniques, And his name became very famousall over Japan like his father.
His younger brother, Oishi Yukie inherited his school. After Meiji Restoration, Kenjyutsu declined temporarily, but the lpractice in Oishi dojyo was prosperous. When Oishi Yukie died, his son, Oishi Hajime was young, so Itai Masumi of the pupil of Oishi Yukie protected Oishi Shinkage-ryu,. After Oishi Hajime grew up enough,. he instructed Oishi Shinkage-ryu  He was the principal of the high school, a village mayor, and a city council member. Oishi Hajime taught Oishi Shinkage-ryu to his ground son, Oishi Eiichi. And Oishi Eiichi taught Oishi Shinkage-ryu to Morimoto Kunio.
Morimoto Kunio, the pupil of Oishi Eiichi, was given Menkyo-Kaiden (a teaching licence ). Now he teaches Oishi Shinkage-ryu Kenjutu to many students.
Now only Kan ou-kan is open to teach the Oishsi Shinkage-ryu Kenjyutu
